Local MKV file with AAC = no sound

Hello,

I am using the sony 2011-us profile. When attempting to play a MKV file with AAC audio, I get no audio. I did notice the transcoded file changes the audio format to AAC (ADTS). Not sure if this is the culprit...

Re: Local MKV file with AAC = no sound

@koan00 : HE-AAC audio is not supported, need to be transcoded.

With ffmpeg:
Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: aac, 44100 Hz, stereo, fltp (default)

@Zip, I'm not sure but, does "fltp" expression on ffmpeg output means HE-AAC ?

Re: Local MKV file with AAC = no sound

I am having the same problem with a similar setup (2011 Sony TV).

In particular, I had serviio 0.6.2 with ffmpeg-0.7.13 installed, and it was working fine.

I just upgraded serviio to 1.2.1 (and also installed ffmpeg 1.2.1), and I started having problems. Non-AAC mkv's are transcoded fine.

This does not work:

Stream #0:0(eng): Video: h264 (High), yuv420p, 1280x720 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 47.95 tbc (default)
Stream #0:1: Audio: aac, 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp (default)
Stream #0:2: Subtitle: subrip (default)

This works:

Stream #0:0: Video: h264 (High), yuv420p, 1920x1080 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 47.95 tbc (default)
Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 448 kb/s (default)

Re: Local MKV file with AAC = no sound

After version 0.6.2 I believe the Sony profile was changed to allow the TV to natively decode AAC instead of transcoding it (before it was all transcoded).

However the TV is a bit picky on what it accepts. As of right now, the profile logic is not setup to properly feed the TV only the AAC audio it can actually decode. The fix for me is to simply go back to the previous working method and transcode the AAC again.

In your profiles.xml file, at about line 660 you should see text like this:
  Code:
<Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="aac" />

Delete it, or comment it out like this:
  Code:
<!-- Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="aac" / -->

Or you can use the profile file that I am using now. It has 2 changes: 1) Trancodes the AAC audio. and 2) Removes all of the DAR attributes (this fixes a lot of my content being weirdly stretched by serviio).

Re: Local MKV file with AAC = no sound

Yes, I ended up doing this, too, (based on another post), and now it works.

Hmm.. It seems to me, though, that the profile for the Sony TVs, then, should be a bit conservative, until the profile logic is correct for all models. I vote for reverting the profile, in the shipping profile, so that people don't get into the same issue me (and other people) have hit.

I have mentioned the same sentiment in others threads as well. I just submitted a bug ticket on the issue. Please add your thoughts: https://bitbucket.org/xnejp03/serviio/i ... io-changes

Illico, can you comment on the issue? I think we should transcode AAC if the detection is not 100%

We limited transcoding process for NAS system with low CPU,.
That is why profile has been changed to allow the TV to natively decode AAC.
But with serviio/ffmpeg, we can not distinguish HE-AAC (not supported) vs AAC (supported).
Zip, which option should be preferred ?

Can we conclude that the DAR option should be removed for all U.S. models (2009 -> 2012)? if it 's the case, we have to make a custom 2012-us profile (and 2010-2011(us) inheritance...)

I think Zip was only referring to the Audio issue.

For DAR, I'm not sure the fix I use is widely applicable.

Yes, it is up to Zip to make the choice.

@koan00, what is your model number and region ?
Is there some other 2012 users with Display Aspect Ratio problem ?

Ok, let's revert to the original state and add a comment in the profile to comment the line to avoid transcoding.

Illico, can you comment on the ticket with changes I need to make?
