How work subtitle options "Enable burned-in subtitle"?

Hi, I want to know how exactly work this setting? What is the difference between Always and only if required? What is the condition for "only when required"?

Because when I specified fre as prefered sub language and I select "only when required" the sub are not show. But If I choose Always, that's working...

Thanks you.
My Setup : BDT220 Panasonic Bluray player, TC-L55ET5 and TC-L42ET5 Panasonic TV. My home media server run Serviio 1.4.2 Pro under GNU/Linux Ubuntu 14.04 LTS server x64 and the hardware is Amd 1045t Phenom II X6, 6Gb DDR3 1333 mhz on SSD and data on soft raid 5 (3x1tb).

It depends on profile. Some devices don't need burned in subtitles, or only need them for some containers. I think it's the case of Viera devices.

Re: How work subtitle options "Enable burned-in subtitle"?

Any way to work this way with panasonic?

If it's set to: "only if required"

"If no "fre" audio is detected and an "fre" sub is detected, then use the sub"

Actually as I already said, it's only working when it's set to "Always"

Thanks.

P.S. Any hope to include in 1.3 audio track language selection when transcoding? :?:

The 'when necessary' currently used technical side of things (ie when the TV requires it). It's notlogical (ie when the customer needs it).

When you say "when the TV requires it" how can I find if the tv ask for it or not? Any debugging tool to find this?

usually from experience of the users or from what other software does. Viera doesn't need burned-in subtitles with most file types, AFAIK
