[SOLVED] version 1.3 make windows 7 64b slower

I've install 1.3 over 1.2.1 and reboot. After reboot windows became very slow like if it use all my CPU. I try another reboot of my pc and a stop/start of the service... same issue.

Only after I stopped the service that my windows return to normal.

Finally I've ditch the 1.3 and put back the 1.2.1.

Please remove the 1.3 from your web site and don't bring it back until you fix it.

The upgrade will scan all your media again to update the library. That is normal. It will take CPU and time to get it up-to-date.

I've waited 6 hours before throwing the towel. With the version 1.2.1 it doesn't take 10 minutes... the soft have a problem.

No, there is no problem, it's been in testing for 2 months.

How many files do you share? It might take hours to do the initial scan.

I had the same problem with 1.21 and for me it was the plugins, mainly the iLive plugin but i dont use any plugins now.

Hello,
Since i updated to 1.3 ; ServiioService.exe uses 17% CPU (Core i7 940 8 threads and Windows 8). I think there is a problem.

Maybe there is a problem with the plugins. I had the same problem with the slow system but after deleting all plugins and a reboot everything seems to be ok at the moment.

Update:
The Plugins are not the problem. Now my system (Win7 64Bit) is very slow again. Going back to 1.21 :(

Could you enable detailed logging and check the serviio log file ?

Re: version 1.3 make windows 7 64b slower

I'm running 1.3 on two different computers. One is listed in my sig below, and it has over 2000 video files. After a fresh install it took almost all night to rebuild the database metadata. After that was done, there has been no issues with performance. Actually, even during the scan it would still serve video with no issues.

The 2nd computer is a dual core Windows 7 x64 box with 4 gig of ram. Probably closer to the spec most people might have. Unsure of the video count on this box, but no more than around 250. I never really noticed a performance issue with it.

I will acknowledge that neither of these are regularly used for any purpose other than streaming, although the main server also is used as a file server and the Win 7 box also has a TV tuner for OTA recording. I've never tried using Serviio (or any other DLNA server application) on a computer that is used for other purposes. It is certainly possible that the issues you are encountering would be more noticable on a dual use computer.

Re: version 1.3 make windows 7 64b slower

The main reason it has to rescan all the metadata again this time is the new search functionality - it has to build the search index. The fact that is was faster with 1.2.1 has absolutely no relevance here - each version will have different upgrade path.

Re: version 1.3 make windows 7 64b slower

After the (long) scan of my audio library Serviio version 1.3 and Windows 7 64 work normaly... effectivelly it' was rescan or new scan of libraries that makes windows slower...In all cases I would like to say Serviio it's the best server that I found !!! thanks to the Serviio Team for their support and for their great software !!! thanks from France !!!!

Re: version 1.3 make windows 7 64b slower

I'm having the exact same problem, only that in my case my computer is still slow with brief hangups (mouse becomes irresponsible, explorer folder don't load).
After reading it may be the program rescanning all the folders I decided to leave the machine on overnight and during the next day to see if it was fixed after I came from work.
No luck here :( Still experiencing slow and weird behaviour.

Where can I download the previous 1.2.1 version that worked just fine?

Re: version 1.3 make windows 7 64b slower

I too have been having big problems with the 1.3 update.
Im Running a new Haswell Core I7, 16 GB mem, 256gb SSD system drive. Win7 64
Perfmon showing 15% cpu, 20% memory.

With the library refresh running - Which nothing except the logs shows its still doing, the pc is massively unresponsive, 15-20 seconds to respond to a click.

This is unacceptable, even knowing the refresh is running.

Something must be very wrong for a library refresh to stop a pc of this power. I think you need to add a 'files processed counter' to the interface so people can see at a glance that it is working (the normal library refresh window shows nothing), and I also think you should lower the 'priority' of the refresh, it has completley taken over my pc for over 24 hours and destroyed its usability and isnt finished yet.
I am perservering though.

I can provide a log if needed, but is huge due to processing the library.

It is scanning approx :
127 GB in 25000 MP3's
62 GB in 22000 JPG's
182 GB in 1319 various TV series
669 GB in 168 MKV films

Thanks for reading, for the record, apart from this issue, it has been a great bit of software!

Yes, i did the debug log and reinstalled 1.3. The system response was normal during the hole rescan this time. A little bit strange...
I got a 800 MB logfile (packed 15 MB) if you want!?

My System (i5 3570K) work normal now and everything ist fine. So i stay with the 1.3 Version

Re: version 1.3 make windows 7 64b slower

And after 48 hours of PC hell...

Normallity returns.

I would really think about double checking the code for some enhancements, failing that put a warning somewhere that it WILL slow down your PC while building the library.

People will have downloaded this, installed it, and deleted it again before even trying it with these perfomance levels, and that would be a shame.

Re: version 1.3 make windows 7 64b slower

I can confirm I am seeing the same issue with Serviio 1.3 as well. I tried it for the first time yesterday and was impressed with how well it managed my video library, but scanning for music does seem to have a few issues.

Using Serviio 1.3 to scan my music library results in it processing around 2-3 files/second, whereas downgrading to 1.2.1 achieves a rate of around 250 files/second. When using 1.3 to scan the system becomes very unresponsive, with system-wide slow downs in response to user input. As a developer myself, I couldn't avoid having a quick look at the problem :)

When 1.3 is scanning it seems to produce a much larger volume of I/O requests than 1.2.1 when it's scanning; so much so that it's causing the Disk Queue Length of the drive containing the media to be greater than 2 which is resulting in an I/O bottleneck. If the media is stored on the same drive as the Serviio install then this problem is exacerbated further. The queue seems to get larger as the scan progresses which I suspect is why the system starts slowing down to input interrupts.

For reference, I was scanning around 25,000 files on an i5-2500k with 16GB of RAM. The Serviio service was using around 30-40%, spread fairly evenly between the 4 cores. I'm also not using any plugins, just the standard installs with default settings in both instances.

Hopefully you can figure out the issue in 1.3 as Serviio really is an awesome bit of software :)

Re: version 1.3 make windows 7 64b slower

Thanks, I'll look into it. I think it may be caused by the new search index creation. I'll try to optimize the code a bit.
