Idiot guy to linux shares?

Hello all,

I've been using serviio for a long time on windows and I'm trying to set it up on a headless linux server for work.

What I have so far:

I have followed the setup guide and serviio is properly installed. TV recognizes the server.

Unfortunately, I don't know where to go from here.

I have performed many searches to try to find a better guide on how to add files but have yet to find one.

I would greatly appreciate any help I could get. I know this should be easy :(

Re: Idiot guy to linux shares?

Hey zip,

Thanks for your reply.

The files will be located on a mounted network share.

The computer will have access to the shared location, so that is not a problem.

I don't have the WebUI because I haven't paid for pro.

I am doing doing everything by ssh'ing into the computer with serviio and configuring it via the terminal.

Really what I was looking for is where in the configuration file I can add the share?

Re: Idiot guy to linux shares?

There is not terminal-based configuration, you will have to either run the console remotely (see faq) on a different machine, or install a webUI (this is not MediaBrowser and you don't need Pro for that), or use a mobile app like ServiiDroid.

Re: Idiot guy to linux shares?

Maybe I am misunderstanding you somewhere or maybe I am being unclear.

I am a noob a linux so I could be using a few of the wrong terms.

Would you be able to link me to the specific faq for running the console remotely so I can read up on it?

I am looking into the WebUI now.

Again, I greatly appreciate your help.

Re: Idiot guy to linux shares?

I take that back.

I found the spot in the faq. I tried looking at the link for more help but it "doesn't exist." viewtopic.php?f=5&t=142&start=10#p873

I don't think that extra help article is needed any more.

What operating system are you connecting to your server from (what does your PC run)?

Re: Idiot guy to linux shares?

on linux you have to beware for file permissions.
before few days, I also moved all my PC's at home from windows to fedora linux, and had some trouble to get serviio working....
my main problem was not paying attention about 'read' permision on files....

Re: Idiot guy to linux shares?

I can probably get some help changing permission if need be.

I am running Scientific Linux 6 on both machines. Scientific Linux is a RedHat clone, basically, it is identical to that and CentOS.

Re: Idiot guy to linux shares?

This is nothing to do with permissions at the moment, the OP needs help connecting the console to a headless server.

Re: Idiot guy to linux shares?

Thanks.

Y'all have been very helpful.

The webgui finally did it for me. I was hoping there was another way, maybe there is. It works for me this way though.

Now, I have a new problem. My script no longer works.

I will provide details to this in a new post.
