Re: Subtitles support

That's sad :( :( :(

Any chance that in a next Serviio release the subtitles are "burned" in the video stream?

Re: Subtitles support

I know that some profiles may contain subtitles DVB.
MPEG_TS_SD_EU
MPEG_TS_SD_EU_T
MPEG_TS_SD_EU_ISO
But how does it work, or how could we mux subtitles in the ts stream, i don't know.

Re: Subtitles support

I upgraded to 0.4.2 yesterday in an effort to get subtitles to work via my Samsung TV UA40C6900VF which is a series 6 LED samsung. I use the Samsung C-Series profile for this. Unfortunately none of my subtitles work. I have tried xvid+srt and mkv and neither work. Was I meant to do something else to get this working? The video files are sitting on a windows share on the network which I have mounted in my linux box. The video plays but no subtitles.

Ultimately I would prefer my Bluray player working with subs since this is the main media player I use. However I decided to try out the tv again just for the subs. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

And what about using MEncoder instead of FFmpeg??? I understand that they can "burn" the subtitles in the stream.

First of all, excellent job on that DLNA media server !!!

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-52EX705 and the movies run perfectly, but it is not reading the .srt subtitles... The Sony Bravia supports external subtitles, at least the model I have - I tested the Wild Media Server from a computer with windows and the subtitles appears from .srt file without problems...

Any idea how to fix it on Serviio ??? I could send the log from Wild Media Server, if it would help... just let me know..

Best Regards !!

I don't think that Sony Bravia support srt subtitles, in fact, I think that Wild Media Server burn the srt file into the streamed video. I would like that you contradict me by giving us the logging file of WildMS.

Re: Subtitles support

@Zip, if I can give you my opinion: as some clients do not understand the way Serviio sends the subtitles, it would be very nice to have an option to enable that subtitles become embeded to the movie when transcoding. Just to tell two other Media Servers that do so, PS3 Media Server (that I think is the best featured for PS3, at least) and Wild Media Server (that I finally could make work with my Sony BDP-S570 Bluray player - but it is not free).

Other interesting feature from PS3 Media Server is that one a DVD structure is in the library, it enables to the customer all possibilities of subtitles, that are embeded to the movie when transcoding - I did not see this feature in any other Media Server.

But I really consider Serviio a great job, although subtitles are very important for me - I am from Brazil and my family do not understand English but enjoys the original sound track, so subtitles is the way forward.

Regards,
Claudio.

Re: Subtitles support

Hi ...

I'd like to know if there is any new update about this topic. I'd really like to have Subtitles support for my Samsung TV C7000 and my Sony Blu-Ray S370.

For example, other Media Server named TVMobili has implemented under its setting an option to enable the subtitles during the transcoding. The option has this description "Display subtitles if a suitable subtitle file can be located." With this Option I can enable the subtitles in my Samsung TV C7000.

Cheers!

Re: Subtitles support

The Samsung should play then with Serviio already (make sure to pick the proper profile). For the Sony it won't work, unless FFmpeg implement encoding subtitles into the video stream.

Done! I update the selected the right profile and my Samsung is working now.

Now, regarding to FFmpeg, how can we open a request to that team? Did you already make a request?

Re: Subtitles support

Again, regarding to FFmpeg, I reviewed the FFmpeg documentation and there are some topics about subtitles.

  Code:
Source = http://www.ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg.html#SEC10

3.1 Generic options
...
`-codecs'
Show available codecs. The fields preceding the codec names have the following meanings:

    `D'
        Decoding available
    `E'
        Encoding available
    `V/A/S'
        Video/audio/subtitle codec

3.7 Subtitle options:
`-scodec codec'
Force subtitle codec ('copy' to copy stream).
`-newsubtitle'
Add a new subtitle stream to the current output stream.
`-slang code'
Set the ISO 639 language code (3 letters) of the current subtitle stream.
`-sn'
    Disable subtitle recording.
`-sbsf bitstream_filter'
Bitstream filters available are "mov2textsub", "text2movsub".

    ffmpeg -i file.mov -an -vn -sbsf mov2textsub -scodec copy -f rawvideo sub.txt

Also, from FFmpeg General Documentation there is "Subtitles Formats" supported.

  Code:
Source = http://www.ffmpeg.org/general.html#SEC8

2.5 Subtitle Formats
Name                Muxing        Demuxing      Encoding        Decoding
SSA/ASS           X                 X                  X                    X
DVB              X                 X                  X                    X
DVD              X                 X                  X                    X
PGS                                                                           X
SubRip (SRT)      X                 X                  X                    X
XSUB                                                   X                    X

Two question:
- Could these options work with Serviio?
- Could you help us to understand how FFmpeg works with subtitles?

Regards!

I can tell you that I have a two Samsung devices, both they work only with SRT subtitles. Samsung doesn't support embedded subtitles.
