Streaming MKV to BDP-S590 (subtitle charset)

Hi all,

I am trying to stream a MKV video to my Sony BDP-S590 with subtitles of different languages in the MKV file.

Audio and video runs smooth, sutbtitles are shown as well BUT with strange characters. Maybe the charset (ANSI, UTF-8 or other) might be changed, maybe adjust Serviio, maybe both...

I am also considering buying a WD Live, they say it works perfectly, but I prefer one last shot with Serviio.

Anyone could help me please? I can obviously provide extra information it needed.

Indeed, both the console and subtitles must have the same charset.
Could you provide MediaInfo tools result of your mkv file, and "ffmpeg -i" ? (see my signature link)

No subtitle tracks in you mkv file, only two audio tracks (Portuguese,English)?
- Do you have an external subtitle file (srt, sub, etc.).
- Does video track already has subtitle burned into frames ?

The embedded subtitles are in UTF-8, so on serviio console, you have to set the same charset value (UTF-8).

Could you enable detailed logging and post here the log section where the embedded sub were extracted (ffmepg command line)?

Could you extract the subtitles with mkvmerge tools and post here one with wrong character ?
