Sony Bravia KDL-46W5500 and MKV files

Hello,
I am not able to watch MKV movies : they play very fast, there is no audio and it is very difficult to stop them using the remote control.
I run :
- Windows seven + Serviio v1.3.1 (last version)
- TV Sony Bravia KDL-46W5500 with the recommended firmware (PKG1.752EA)
- The profile used by Serviio is : Sony Bravia TV (2009) . The Device name is : KDL-46W5500

I went through the forum and I know that some recommend to update some parameters in the profiles.xml file but I don't really understand which one and in which section.
Is it possible to Watch MKV movies on this TV and if so, can someone (Illico :-) ? ) let me know which profile I have to use ?

Anyway, thanks for your work to let us enjoy this free media server.

Gilles

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-46W5500 and MKV files

Does mkv files have embedded subtitle tracks?
What are subtitle settings on your serviio console ?
Could you provide some information about one mkv file that does not play fine ? (see signature links)

You can try to edit the 2010 section by replacing 4.1 by 3.0 value (2009 inherits of 2010 profile):
<Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" profile="high" levelGreaterThan="4.1" />
<Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" profile="main" levelGreaterThan="4.1" />
by
<Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" profile="high" levelGreaterThan="3.0" />
<Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" profile="main" levelGreaterThan="3.0" />
then restart serviio services or reboot PC.

1) There is no subtitle.
The settings of the subtitle tab are :

- enable burned-in subtitles is ticked with "only when required"
- subtitle character encoding : UTF-8
- preferred language : eng,en,fr (I am french)

2) Here are the output of the ffmpeg -i command :

3) I have changed 4.1 with 3.0 in Bravia 2010 profile and I have rebooted the PC. Now, the audio is good but the TV screen remains black or has too much pixels to be readable.

Let me know if you need more.
Thanks

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-46W5500 and MKV files

Your device should support h264 video, but it seems that something in your mkv/h264 troubles your Bravia TV.

After profile modification, your mkv file should be transcoded to mpegts/mpeg2video/ac3 format. (supported by your device).

Could you provide MediaInfo result ( in text format) of your mkv file ?

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-46W5500 and MKV files

I'm confused... your mkv file seems good but :
- In native format, the original h264 video track disrupts your Bravia TV.
- When transcoded to mpeg2video, the video track is pixelized.

Could you enable detailed logging and check the ffmpeg command line used during transcoding of your mkv file, then retry the same command line in a local windows terminal, then check ffmpeg output result and log ?

Thanks.

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-46W5500 and MKV files

The h264 video was still copied...not transcoded
dpbMbs = (720* 576* 4 ) / 256 = 6480 => Your file is a 2.2 h264level (http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=get_h264_level)

Could you try with 2.0 value instead of 4.1 (restart services or reboot after modification)?

<Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" profile="high" levelGreaterThan="4.1" />
<Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" profile="main" levelGreaterThan="4.1" />
by
<Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" profile="high" levelGreaterThan="2.0" />
<Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" profile="main" levelGreaterThan="2.0" />

Thanks.

EDIT: There were many errors on your mkv container.

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-46W5500 and MKV files

No idea or advise ?
If it comes from the file (I don't have any other mkv file), I may delete it but I just would need to be sure.

Yes, from my point of view, it comes from the file.

You can try with the latest ffmpeg build : http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/
simply replace the ./lib/ffmpeg.exe file (make a backup)

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-46W5500 and MKV files

I have tried the latest ffmpeg version, I still have the same issue.
The issue must be related to this file.
I give up.
Thanks for your help and your patience.
