Have you go to "Options -> subtitles" on the TV and it says no subtitles ? Which kind of files are you playing ?

Re: Subtitles not working

not currently as it looks like SRT external subs are not supported by the device, but let me confirm this with my helper who has a panasonic device.

PMI - can you test subtitles for me please, i know we activated the feature in the profile but do they work?

Hi can you try to play avi and subtitles directly on TV via USB? Can you give more information about avi file? If video codec is dvvideo (divx), the file need to be transcoded and you will have no subtitles.

USB and DLNA can NOT be compared so that test is useless. divx is supported by the device as per my profile, so again thats not an issue.

If subtitles are not supported via USB there are no way for them to work via serviio and DLNA.

Divx is not supported by profile for "ST30 and VT30":
  Code:
           <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3">
              <Matches container="avi" />

or "Profile for E30, GT30 and UT30"
  Code:
           <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3">
              <Matches container="avi" vCodec="mjpeg" />
              <Matches container="avi" vCodec="dvvideo" />

yes it quite possible for it to work on DLNA even if it doesnt on USB, as they are two completely different systems.

rubbish dvvideo is NOT divx and divx does not have to be in AVI container either.

so please stop posting false information, and quoting a profile at me that i created, trying to say that it proves me wrong.

Best way to test, is to play a video which is supported in its native format, or through USB, with multiple language sound tracks, AND at least one native subtitle track. (verify with VLC player or similar). If while playing the video, the submenu does not show options for switching languages, or subtitles, you are out of luck.

External SRT or any other subtitles are NOT supported on my model, either because it has software for the North-American region, or because my model is the E3, and not the E30. (checked again and verified)

Voodooo has subtitles working on his set, purchased in Europe, and other differences between US and Euro versions. Not the same software version (we checked version numbers).

Subtitles are accessed through the "submenu", and ONLY while playing a video WITH a subtitle track (Note that options which appear in the submenu change depending on the circumstances, meaning, depending on what media or stream the set is playing).

So, if you have the subtitle option in the menu while playing, your set should support subtitles. If you have the option, and the set reports no subtitles found, then they may not have been included when the video was ripped/encoded from the original DVD. (Same thing applies to multiple audio tracks.)

Re: Subtitles not working

Hi PMI,

Thanks for the advice, I do have the subtitle menu appearing in the TV set under the options meny while playing the avi file. But it says " No subtitles" anyway If i play that file in my PC via VLC or similer,Subtitles are displayed.
Let me catch up again, If you think Subtitle menu is displayed , TV is supporting the srt's .. isnt it?

Model is 50ST30A and Im in Australia.

Cheers

I believe so, based on what I heard here from voodooo, who also has a model sold outside the US.

Can you display native subtitles in any video that will play with transcoding turned off? Let's say you have an MKV or MP4 file with H.264 video, and at least one subtitle track, can you display that track using your subtitle setting in the submenu?

Unfortunately, no way I can verify this, b/c I do not have that option in the menu. Meaning, in my case, subtitles are sent to the TV, but I have no way to turn them on... :x

edit:

I am not sure if SRT subtitles will just appear in a file being sent to the TV without transcoding. Can you please post the file format, or ffmpeg info, or MediaInfo output(text format) for the file you are trying to play with SRT?

Stay cool down there, ;)

Re: Subtitles not working

Be careful with VLC, because this software is very permissive. Its not the case of Panasonic/Sony/etc devices.
You also have to check that your srt file is not exotic.
- UTF-8 encoded
- Preferred no tag
- continuous time stamp
- etc
There is a Tool to check & repair srt files : http://www.videohelp.com/tools/SRTWiz
also check with google:
never tested online repair : http://www.gorissen.info/Pierre/files/SRT_repair.htm

Re: Subtitles not working

Hi PMI and Illico

What a surprise kangarooooo .. Subtitles started to work.
:D
What I did was, As per the link which was provided by Illico copy and paste the srt file to the window on the web page. And save the file as a new file with the same name as the movie file. What I have notice is that the new file is significantly smaller than the original SRT file. But anyway the bottom line is its working now.

Thanks Guys

Re: Subtitles not working

ok so panasonic are extremely picky on the coding of subs that good to know, but more testing is required me thinks, to find out what models allow subs and what ones dont.
