Can't control (pause/resume/seek) transcoded h264 mkv's

Serviio has really been awesome for streaming practically everything I have but there is one problem that's bugging me.

I'm running Serviio 1.4 Pro on my Synology NAS with my Samsung UNF7500 using the Samsung E/F Profile.

When I try to play transcoded h264 mkv's (anime) I'm unable to pause/resume/FF/REW/seek. Pretty much once it starts I can't do anything to it, the TV just says "Not available" when I try any of these things. I've seen that it's a common problem that you can't FF/REW transcoded files and I can live with that but the lack of pausing is killing me. I've also tried adding the --clusters-in-meta-seek to get seeking to work as seen in the stickies but to no avail. Unfortunately the TV can't play these files natively.

Here's an example of a file that shows this behavior:

  Code:
ffmpeg version 2.0.2 Copyright (c) 2000-2013 the FFmpeg developers
  built on Jan 11 2014 02:32:36 with gcc 4.6.3 (crosstool-NG 1.17.0)
  configuration: --prefix=/usr/syno --incdir='${prefix}/include/ffmpeg' --arch=i                                                                                                                                                             686 --target-os=linux --cross-prefix=/usr/local/i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/i686-pc-li                                                                                                                                                             nux-gnu- --enable-cross-compile --enable-optimizations --enable-pic --enable-gpl                                                                                                                                                              --enable-shared --disable-static --enable-version3 --enable-nonfree --enable-li                                                                                                                                                             bfaac --enable-encoders --enable-pthreads --disable-bzlib --disable-protocol=rtp                                                                                                                                                              --disable-muxer=image2 --disable-muxer=image2pipe --disable-swscale-alpha --dis                                                                                                                                                             able-ffserver --disable-ffplay --disable-devices --disable-bzlib --disable-altiv                                                                                                                                                             ec --enable-libopencore-amrnb --enable-libopencore-amrwb --enable-libmp3lame --d                                                                                                                                                             isable-decoder=amrnb --disable-encoder=zmbv --disable-encoder=dca --disable-enco                                                                                                                                                             der=ac3 --disable-encoder=ac3_fixed --disable-encoder=eac3 --disable-decoder=dca                                                                                                                                                              --disable-decoder=eac3 --disable-decoder=truehd --cc=/usr/local/i686-pc-linux-g                                                                                                                                                             nu/bin/i686-pc-linux-gnu-ccache-gcc --enable-yasm --enable-libx264 --enable-enco                                                                                                                                                             der=libx264

Re: Can't control (pause/resume/seek) transcoded h264 mkv's

this is reason why it has to be transcoded:

  Code:
Stream #0:0(jpn): Video: h264 (High 10), yuv420p10le, 1280x720 [SAR 1:1 DAR                                                                                                                                                              16:9], 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 47.95 tbc (default)

but i think, on my ES Samsung I can pause transcoded videos... but I am not sure 100%, will check tonite.

Ya i realize with such a high AVC level it needs transcoding and I prefer the burned in subtitles so it needs to be transcoded anyway. If only the pausing worked it, which I find strange since I scowered the forums and couldn't find any Samsung users with this problem.

FYI I'm on the latest firmware.

Re: Can't control (pause/resume/seek) transcoded h264 mkv's

as I said this morning, transcoded files (i tested on one 3gp file) I can press pause to stop video.
It doesnt work jumping 30 sec forward/backward as on untranscoded files, only optzion that works is: PAUSE, pressing again continues.

Thanks for testing that out... I wonder why pausing doesn't work on my unit (UN60F7500). Can anyone with an F-Series chime in?

Would this solely be a Samsung firmware problem?

My TV won't play that file, it says the file isn't supported and the log reads:

Re: Can't control (pause/resume/seek) transcoded h264 mkv's

you need to additionaly change E/F profile:

  Code:
            <Matches container="3gp" vCodec="h264" aCodec="amrnb" />
            <!--Matches container="3gp" vCodec="mpeg4" aCodec="amrnb" /-->
            <Matches container="wtv" vCodec="h264"/>
        </Video>
        <!-- my phone produces 3gp that don't fit above (i have to diasble 3gp-mpeg4 line above), so needed this section below-->
        <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3" forceVTranscoding="true" maxVBitrate="4096" aBitrate="192" forceInheritance="true">
            <Matches container="3gp" />

I modified the E/F Series profile per your instructions and forced the file to be transcoded to play, however, pausing still does not work..

In an effort to narrow down the problem I started another Serviio server on my PC and streamed it from there to my TV and pausing also still does not work :?

Re: Can't control (pause/resume/seek) transcoded h264 mkv's

I'm not a Samsung user so I could be way off track, but I do remember reading that the fwd and rewind functions are not available for DLNA, but rather you can use the jump forward/jump back functions by pressing the ">" and "<" instead of FF and REW keys. Press and hold these buttons for faster jumping.

It may be the case they also use a different button for pause? My panasonic uses the up arrow key for example. Anyway just guessing.... What keys is everyone using?

Literally pressed every button available. The only thing I can do is exit the video, everything else just makes the TV display "Not Available". In files that I can play natively I'm able to pause and seek as you described though.

Re: Can't control (pause/resume/seek) transcoded h264 mkv's

so, you can't pause this video?

now you can try to see if makes difference to use other codec:

instead:
  Code:
        <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3" forceVTranscoding="true" maxVBitrate="4096" aBitrate="192" forceInheritance="true">
            <Matches container="3gp" />
        </Video>

try:
  Code:

<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="h264" targetACodec="aac" forceVTranscoding="true" maxVBitrate="2048" aBitrate="192" forceStereo="true" forceInheritance="true">
            <Matches container="3gp" />
</Video>

if this doesn't help, I have no idea

or try a different container (eg. mpeg).

Gave that a go but it still doesn't pause or seek...

Thanks for trying at least. I didn't think different models in each series were that different but I don't see any other F-Series users complaining about this.

Forced transcoded an mpeg file... still no dice :( So it seems transcoding ANYTHING won't allow me to pause.

I've got the latest firmware which is 1119.1, it also didn't work on 1118.1. Models F7450/F7500/F7550/F8000 share the same firmware so hopefully someone with these TV's might have some input.

If it matters, I can pause these same transcoded videos using other servers such as PS3 Media Server and Samsung Link (Allshare).

Samsung AllShare doesnt transcode, so perhaps you can update the profile to play the file natively.

Well the problem is I can't pause transcoded files... obviously for files that it can't play natively. I probably streamed something that I force transcoded on serviio to allshare then. But I reconfirmed PS3 Media Server serves it fine with pause and seek working.

Perhaps PS3MS doesn't transcode the file either?
